What is Mindfulness?

The best definition we know of comes from the world-renowned Meditation teacher Tara Brach:
“Paying Attention in the Present Moment, on Purpose, without Judgement.” This is easier said than done, but it can be practiced… with Meditation!

Do I need special tools or training in order to be Mindful?

Not at all. You already have everything you need to be Mindful: your breath and your mind. You also don’t have to learn tai-chi or join a monastery to become Mindful. We teach simple but proven techniques that anyone can use to remove stress and regain focus on their lives.

Is Mindfulness a religion or belief system?

No. You can think of Mindfulness as spirituality without belief and dogma. It is tapping into your mind’s natural abilities, not into a deity.

If you are religious or spiritual, you can learn Mindfulness while still practicing your faith. Mindfulness may even help you deepen your faith.

Is Mindfulness Meditation practice scientifically proven to be beneficial?

YES! Here are some quick facts:

  • Practicing meditation helps reduce stress response and anxiety as it counters the symptoms of anxiety disorders (Hoge et al.).
  • Meditation can help those who experienced a major depressive episode from having a relapse (Lu).
  • Meditation can be used as an intervention for the treatment of chronic pain such as fibromyalgia, chronic back pain, musculoskeletal pain, etc. (Maglione).
  • Meditation can slow the rate of cellular aging and is also associated with longevity (Alexander et al., p. 950-964).
  • Unhealthy food cravings can be curbed by 40% by meditating for at least 10 minutes a day (Mackenzie).
